Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at sales@iconinternet.net if you cannot find an answer to your question.

When deciding how much Internet speed or bandwidth you need, it is important to take into consideration which services and devices you use most. Some require more bandwidth than others, but it may not be as much as you think.

When thinking about your Internet speed, it helps to know the difference between upload and download speed. Upload speed refers to how quickly your connection can send data (i.e. uploading photos to Facebook or emailing files). Download refers to how quickly your connection can receive data (i.e. streaming videos or surfing the web).

Here is a breakdown of some of the most popular services and how much bandwidth they require:

Streaming Video

Streaming TV shows, movies and other videos can be one of the most bandwidth-intensive activities. The amount of
bandwidth required can vary depending on the service and what video quality you are streaming in.

  • Netflix – 3 Mbps download for SD, 5 Mbps download for HD & 25 Mbps download for 4K
  • Hulu – 3 Mbps download for on demand content, 8 Mbps download for live TV & 16 Mbps download for 4K
  • Amazon Prime – 1 Mbps download for SD, 5 Mbps download for HD & 15 Mbps for 4K
  • YouTube – 2.5 Mbps download & 25 Mbps download for 4K
  • HBO Max – 5 Mbps download & 25 Mbps download for 4K
  • Peacock – 2.5 Mbps download & 8 Mbps download for 4K
  • Disney Plus – 5 Mbps download & 25 Mbps download for 4K
  • ESPN Plus – 2 Mbps download & 25 Mbps download for 4K
  • Sling – 5 Mbps download & 20 Mbps download for 4K

Streaming Music

Streaming music requires very little bandwidth. Many music streaming services even allow you to download your music
so that you don’t have to use your Internet when listening to music.

  • Spotify – 96 Kbps download
  • Apple Music – 256 Kbps download
  • Pandora – 150 Kbps download
  • Amazon Music – 500 Kbps download

Online Gaming

Playing games on an online server typically require a relatively small amount of bandwidth, but have requirements for
both upload and download speeds.

  • Nintendo Switch – 3 Mbps download, 1 Mbps upload
  • PS4 – 3 Mbps download, 1 Mbps upload
  • XBOX One – 3 Mbps download, .5 Mbps upload
  • Google Stadia – 10 Mbps

Home Security Systems & Camera

Wi-Fi based security systems and cameras constantly use your Internet speeds and need a good download and upload
speed.

  • Nest – 150 – 4000 Kbps upload per device
  • Ring – 2 Mbps upload and download per device
  • SimpliSafe – Cameras require 0.75 Mbps – 2 Mbps upload per device

Video Conferencing

Since you are sending and receiving data when video conferencing, both your upload and
download speed need to be sufficient.

  • Zoom – 2 Mbps download and upload
  • Skype – 1.5 Mbps download and upload

The time it takes to set up your internet connection depends on your location and the type of connection you choose. Typically, installation takes between 1-2 hours once our installers arrive at your address.

Yes, you can use your own router as long as it is compatible with our network. We still require our standard router to be installed in front so we can accurately monitor your connection and troubleshoot any issues that may arise.

  1. No Hidden Costs: What you see is what you pay. We do not charge any monthly taxes or additional fees. The installation fee helps us maintain a straightforward and transparent billing process.
  2. Comprehensive Equipment Provision: We supply the modem and wireless router, so there’s no need for you to purchase any additional equipment. This ensures you have the latest, high-quality hardware without any extra costs.
  3. Onsite Professional Installation: For every new customer, our skilled technicians come to your home or business to install new cabling, a new antenna, and a new router. This ensures a reliable and optimized setup tailored to your specific needs.
  4. No Credit Checks: We believe in making our services accessible to everyone. By charging an upfront installation fee, we eliminate the need for credit checks, allowing more customers to enjoy our services without any barriers.
  5. Cost Efficiency: The upfront fee helps us cover the cost of installation and equipment, which in turn allows us to keep your monthly bill lower. This way, you benefit from affordable, high-quality internet service without hidden charges.
  6. Total White-Glove Experience: Our installation process is designed to be thorough and convenient. Our technicians provide a white-glove service, handling all aspects of the setup:

  • Installing all new equipment and cabling

By investing in a professional installation, we ensure that you receive the best possible internet experience from day one. Thank you for choosing ICON Internet!

Most installations fall under our standard package covered by the base install fee. A non-standard installation may be necessary for specific situations, such as extending internet to multiple buildings, installing multiple wireless access points for extra coverage, installing excessively tall posts to gain antenna height requirements, or dispatching multiple times due to missed appointments. Rest assured, any non-standard fees will be communicated to you by the technician, explained in full detail, and your approval is required prior to installation.

No, our service is not typically affected by common weather conditions such as rain, snow, or fog. However, severe weather events can occasionally impact service reliability due to issues with critical infrastructure. Factors such as power outages, lightning strikes hitting a tower, or extremely heavy rain causing “rain fade” may lead to temporary disruptions in service. Despite these rare occurrences, our team works diligently to resolve any weather-related issues as quickly as possible to minimize downtime and ensure uninterrupted connectivity for our customers.

No, we do not conduct preliminary site visits. Our software accurately determines service availability. When we schedule an onsite visit, it is solely for installation purposes. If the signal is deemed insufficient, by you or our professional technician, during physical testing, there will be no charge for the installation attempt. Our customer service team is available to address any questions prior to scheduling.

While large companies may advertise higher speeds, our focus is on providing consistent and reliable broadband internet that meets or exceeds FCC standards. We will disclose the speeds you can reliably expect from your connection to our network instead of what's on some brochure or plan name. We also give the customer an opportunity to refuse the completion of the installation if the bandwidth speeds are not in an acceptable range.  Our service is backed by local support, honest communication, and offers a more personalized experience.

No, we do not offer promotional rates with expiration dates and then drive prices up like some of our competitors. Our pricing is transparent and is locked in for life once you become and maintain the status of an official ICON customer. We remain committed to providing fair and consistent pricing for all of our customers and we will never force you to change your plan or increase your bill.

Outside of rare circumstances such as severe weather or utility outages, issues are uncommon at any time. For after-hours support, you can call/text our team at (404) 989-7397 or email us at support@iconinternet.net and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
